Responsible for: Maintenance of our community garden. DBS Check: Some volunteer duties may require a DBS check About the role The Hub from Greener and Cleaner is looking for volunteer Community Gardeners to help maintain our community allotment. We are especially interested in anyone with skills in: General gardening (including physical work like digging, lifting, carrying things). Growing and nurturing plants, trees, and flowers. What will you be doing? We’ve started a community garden to help others learn and practice skills for biodiversity, growing their own produce and a place for connection. Your role is central to the upkeep of our wonderful garden space. TASKS MAY INCLUDE Gardening: planting, pruning, harvesting, regular watering and other manual gardening jobs. Assisting: coordinating the growing schedule with the project manager and help with other general tasks. Sharing skills: helping drop-in visitors by answering questions and sharing tips. Optional help: leading sessions with local people and teaching them how to grow in an eco-friendly way. Who are we looking for? Someone with a passion for the outdoors who has skills in: General gardening (including physical work like digging, lifting, carrying things). Growing and nurturing plants, trees, flowers. Comfortable working in a customer-facing role in a diverse community. A team player. We’re mostly all part-time and/or volunteers relying on, and supporting each other, in our various roles. We’re a very friendly bunch and warmly welcome new people on the team. Keen to learn and share knowledge about growing fruits and vegetables in an eco-friendly way. You’ll need to be over 18, please. What difference will you make? Despite being based in the garden, you’ll be part of our pilot project which, if successful, will see versions of The Hub rolled out across the UK, providing a blueprint for others to be shared and upscaled. This is about engagement and encouragement: about trying and learning. We want to make people feel that whatever they can do helps, by learning new skills like gardening to grow their own produce, this is all part of the small everyday changes they can make to help fight climate change.
