Creative technician

Reporting to: Volunteer Manager or Events Coordinator
Location: Remote
Responsible for: Making items from reclaimed materials for fundraising sales and encouraging a creative upcycle and mend culture.
DBS Check: Some volunteer duties may require a DBS check
About the role
The Hub from Greener and Cleaner is looking for volunteer Creative Technicians to make items from reclaimed material to sell in The Hub, helping us highlight the need to care about where we live and the impact of our lifestyles. Creative Technicians will help to encourage a creative, upcycle and mend culture to reduce waste. We are especially interested in anyone with the following skills:
Artistic, creative or crafting skills
Able to think beyond throw-away culture
Able to reuse and repurpose materials to create something new
What will you be doing?
Combating the throwaway culture and reducing waste.
You’ll be pivotal in making items to sell by upcycling, recycling, reusing and repurposing materials to create items that can be sold in The Hub’s shop, which raises funds for the continuation of Greener and Cleaner.
TASKS MAY INCLUDE
Making items to sell: upcycling, recycling, reusing and repurposing materials to create items that can be sold in The Hub’s shop.
Making display items: making creative things for The Hub’s display that could be used to catch people’s attention and promote sustainability.
Designing items: that other volunteers may be able to replicate.
Optional help: getting involved and/or assisting with teaching community craft sessions.
Who are we looking for?
A creative, out-of-the-box thinker who:
Has artistic, creative or crafting skills
Can think beyond throw-away culture
Can reuse and repurpose materials to create something new
You’ll need to be over 18, please.
Some knowledge of sewing, knitting or crocheting and a willingness to learn new skills would be beneficial but not essential to this role.
What difference will you make?
You’ll be part of our pilot project which, if successful, will see versions of The Hub rolled out across the UK, providing a blueprint for others to be shared and upscaled.
Your role is central to helping highlight the need to care about where we live and the impact of our lifestyles. This is about shifting mindset, moving away from a throwaway culture and building encouragement to move toward a creative, upcycle and mend culture reducing waste.
