Balfour Beatty and Mott MacDonald: Providing Safe Access for Rwanda in 2019
EC3A 7JB London
06 May - 19 Jul 2019
Our 2019 Team: Naila Akram, Daniel Darkin, Tim Smith ,Simon Fraser, Joshua Lynch, Skye Dick, Holly Jones-Dalton, Anna Wallin, Jack Watts, Matt Baston
Our keen volunteers are working with B2P charity representatives who deliver essential structures all over the developing world. We have been tasked with the delivery of a 92m suspended footbridge in Rwanda. The purpose of this bridge is to connect communities, to allow access to healthcare, education and food markets in cut-off remote locations.
The Mwogo River is too dangerous to cross due to flooding at least 330 days of the year, and when the river floods, access to critical resources is cut off. This river prevents collaboration between families on both sides. Residents are unable to access the main market most of the year, with swimming as their only option to cross. Some students take the extra 1.5 hour journey to a distant access when going to study in high school.
Access to the health clinic is 2.5 hours away without a more direct crossing. The Serugeme Suspended Bridge will provide safe, year-round access for the members of the communities in close vicinity, and will empower the communities out of poverty.
We are asking for donations towards the construction of this bridge. Please help deliver Civil Engineering necessities for those who need them most.
Thank you.
