Straton Massawe's Education
Tanzania
01 Nov 2019 - 31 Mar 2020
In 2006 Straton completed his primary school education, but then failed to join his advanced level courses in 2011 due to lack of finances. In 2012, a Priest in his community sponsored Straton for his education, which he was able to succeed in until 2013, when unfortunately the Priest died in a car accident, ending his financial support of Straton.
Since he was no longer able to remain enrolled in school, Straton chose to volunteer in the community to share the knowledge he had acquired until that point. There he taught people in the Maasai community about the effects of early marriage, female genital mutilation, and the dangers of sharing medical tools used in male circumcision.
In 2018, Straton applied for college to obtain his Bachelor’s of Arts in Education, as he thinks he can be a true conduit of positive change in his community. Unfortunately because his father is 72-years-old, he feels he can no longer financially contribute to Straton’s school fees. Additionally his brother feels he is not able to afford all of the fees that Straton has for school.
Therefore, Straton has applied for a sponsorship from Kapadia Education Foundation, in hopes of obtaining his degree.
