Unfortunately, Dorcas lost her father who was the breadwinner of her family. Since then she’s had a hard time staying enrolled in school due to lack of fees. In her application for sponsorship, she wrote, “I pledge to pay it forward to my community upon graduation by volunteering at a local orphanage and by financially adopting orphans and sponsoring other vulnerable kids so that they can attend school as well and achieve their dreams and also serve others in one way or another like me in the future.” “As for now, during holidays I volunteer to teach at my local school and also guide the teenage girls about the importance of education and to be conscious of early marriages. Because girls are the key in breaking the cycle of discrimination and early marriages. In my community, the cases of early marriages are rampant.” She now serves as a mentor but hopes to be a financial sponsor once she is hired as a teacher.
