Anand Niwas means ‘Home of Joy’ and that is what it strives to be. Here in Nawabganj North India, up to 130 boys live, many coming from very sad circumstances. Ravi has no memories of having a father. His mother told him that his father was an alcoholic and that he left home when Ravi was very young. His mother, finding it impossible to make ends meet, decided to marry again. This meant that Ravi could no longer be a part of her life. He remembers the day that she left home: he was six years old standing on the road watching his mother walk away; broken hearted and crying “mama please stop and listen to me. I want to say something to you.” She kept on walking and didn’t look back. The McCabe Trust provides half of the running costs of Anand Niwas.
