The Story

Through our many years of delivering life-changing trauma surgery in Kenya we noticed the clear need for ongoing training of all health workers in recognising sick patients and how to treat them. We have previously relied on government grants from THET and UKAID however this funding is intermittent and has reduced. In 2023 we have completed an incredible round of GRASPIT training in response to local requests. We trained over 120 health workers in Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) and St Joseph's Trauma centre, Nyabondo. We have developed a structure of over 20 health workers from local hospitals, education facilities and have donated equipment for them to run their own courses. We are asking for your help to continue to deliver GRASPIT training so that this area in Kenya can become a self-sufficient regional training hub. Your donations will improve hospitals and health workers' ability to treat sick individuals and prevent illness and death, especially among vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children. We want to support the region's ability to create a stable and well-trained workforce and improve the individual confidence and ability of every health worker's professional capacity to respond to emergencies and potentially save lives.

Future Health Africa

Across the world many people, including pregnant mothers, and children die because of delays of healthcare workers recognising that a patient is very sick or deteriorating. Future Health Africa has seen this first hand in our over 15 years experience of providing life changing trauma surgeries. In Kenya we have developed a very popular and inexpensive one-day GRASPIT course (Global Recognition & Assessment of the Sick Patient and Initial Treatment). We have had phenomenal feedback from individuals and respected organisations such as Tropical Health Education Trust (THET) and National Resuscitation council Kenya. To share this lifesaving education with more people we want to set up a self-sufficient regional training hub in South West Kenya where we have developed excellent relationships and they have requested further training.
