The Story
Masanga Hospital is a rural hospital in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Sierra Leone has suffered greatly from the relatively recent civil war and the 2014-2016 outbreak of Ebola virus. This is reflected in the country’s healthcare service, which has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world. Approximately 440,000 people depend on Masanga Hospital for their healthcare.
Every year staff at the hospital participate in the Wouter run in memory of Dr Wouter Nolet to raise money for the hospital. Dr Wouter Nolet was a Dutch medic who died in 2019, aged just 32, after contracting Lassa fever following emergency surgery on a pregnant woman at Masanga. The Moel y ci Dash is our way of supporting from afar and raising much needed funds for the hospital. Any donations will help provide maternity, paediatric, surgery and general medical care to patients as well as to improve working conditions of health workers in Masanga Hospital, Tonkolili District, Sierra Leone.
