The Story

Medaid United Kingdom hospital farming initiative is without doubt greatly worthwhile to support because it will ensure that patients are feed while in care but also it will help to raise funds locally to buy medicein to treat the patients. As food is not readily available in hospitals for patients in Uganda, the aim is to produce food locally that can be given to those in need whilst in care in two of our rural hospital projects in Adwir Community Health Centre, Alebtong District and Alemere Medical Aid Uganda Community Health Centre, in Amolatar District Northern Uganda. To ensure that this rural hospital projects are sustainable we are conducting Hospital Farming though our 200 acres of land to produce food locally to provide food for patients and part of the produce is sold to raise money locally to buy medicines to treat patients.

Medaid United Kingdom

Medaid United Kingdom is producing food locally to feed patients in our rural hospital project in Adwir Alebetomg District and Alemere Medical Aid Uganda Community Health Centre in Amolatar District Northern Uganda. Unlike the UK, when you're in hospital in Uganda food is not readily available for free. The hospital farming initiative is without doubt greatly worthwhile to support because it will ensure that patients are feed while in care but also it will help to raise funds locally to buy medicein to treat the patients. Up until recently, a tractor for which the funds for were donated by CART (Christian African Relief Trust) was used to farm the food. This tractor needs a new gearbox, we are currently looking at the options of gaining another tractor so two can be used at the same time. Currently we are using ox plough which is slow and expensive. We would like to raise the funds to fix the gearbox on the Massey Ferguson 2640 donated by CART and replace the tyres (An estimated £5,000 in costs) and a subsequent fundraiser to gain the use of another tractor (Approximately £40,000) to end the need for ox plough and facilitate a safer and more efficient, reliable and effective large scale farming.
