Who we are: Nestled in the heart of South Africa's renowned Winelands, Stellenbosch University (SU) consistently ranks among the top universities in the country— and within the top global one percent. As a leading African research university, we have the highest research output per academic in South Africa and nearly 500 NRF-rated researchers benchmarked against global standards. This excellence drives our 86% student success rate, among the highest in the country. 1.Our Students Journey: From Access to Impact A university of choice Over the past five years, our student intake has grown by an average of 6.84%. In 2024, we enrolled our highest intake of 6791. Indicative that we are top of mind with increasing national and international appeal. High throughput rate We are proud to hold a competitive undergraduate throughput rate of 75% and 65% for postgraduate studies (2023). The latter scores above the national average of 64%. This means our undergraduate students tend to complete their studies witihin the minimum allocated academic timeframe. Advancing gender equity On aggregate, our student population comprises 56% female students vs 44% males, empowering the future of women to be equal players in the development of society. This is across the spheres of undergraduate through to postgraduate levels. Employment outcomes that transform lives According to the South African Graduate Employers Association (SAGEA,2023), our graduates tend to have a 2-year employment absorption rate and go on to earn 308% above the minimum national wage (R5000) — transforming our students' lives and those of their families 2. Our Faculties Stellenbosch University has ten faculties: • Agrisciences, Arts and Humanities, Education, Economic and Management Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine and Health Sciences, Military Science, Science, Social Sciences, and Theology. 3. Our Interdisciplinary Schools We are committed to fostering innovation and producing impactful research through our multidisciplinary institutes and schools. Our distinguished schools include: The School for Data Science and Computational Thinking and The School for Climate Studies. Through research and partnerships, these schools are addressing pertinent challenges and developing solutions for a rapidly evolving environment. 4. Research Chairs and Centres of Excellence Across our faculties, we have 46 research chairs. Of these, 21 are South African Research Chairs Initiatives (SARChI), funded by the Department of Science and Innovation. We also have eight Centres of Excellence with a mission to tackle major scientific and societal challenges. 5. International Networks We have a total of 341 partner institutions in 64 countries, across 6 continents, including 25 bilateral agreements with other African universities. 6. As a charity registered with the Charities Commission, it operates under the guidance of a dedicated team of trustees.
