The Story

Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) - Nkegete Team 2023 Introducing the 2023 team comprised of colleagues from Mott MacDonald (Katharine Draper, Juliana Diniz, Eden Beadle, Katerina Sidiropoulou & Tarisiro Fundira) alongside colleagues from Balfour Beatty (James Bryan, Alastair Taylor, Jared Tiller, Grace Lloyd & Syd Halfacre). Our dedicated volunteers are collaborating with representatives from the Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) charity to provide essential infrastructure to underprivileged communities around the world. We have been entrusted with the critical task of constructing a 77m suspended footbridge in Nkegete, Rwanda. The primary objective of this project is to connect remote communities and grant them access to crucial resources such as healthcare, education, and food markets. The exact location of the project is 1.91078°, 29.77379°. For the residents residing near the proposed Nkegete trailbridge site, the Gasayo River is a symbol of missed opportunities. During the rainy season, crossing the river becomes a risky and sometimes fatal endeavour, making it challenging for local communities to access essential resources. The flooded river poses a significant threat to the safety of those who attempt to cross it. This situation leads to severe disruptions in people's lives, forcing them to wait for water levels to recede before crossing the river safely. This situation causes businesses and work to come to a halt as people wait for a safer crossing. During this time, children are unable to attend school located on the opposite bank of the river. Moreover, communities lose access to healthcare and markets. B2P envisions a world where poverty caused by rural isolation no longer exists. The Nkegete Suspended Bridge will provide a safe year-round access route for the surrounding communities, enabling them to access vital resources that empower them out of poverty. However, this takes funds. Therefore, we request donations towards the construction of the bridge, so we can raise the target of £20k. Can you help us deliver essential civil engineering infrastructure to those in dire need? See last year’s bridge build for a flavour of what we will achieve with your donations: youtu.be/6Jf6bUKxHXY. Thank you for your support in advance. We invite you to follow us while we prepare to deliver this project successfully with your valuable help. We will be sharing our journey via our blog linktr.ee/team_nkegete .
