The Story

The Children's Book Project addresses the book gap that exists throughout the UK and aims to give every child the chance to choose and take home a book they really want. We collect new and pre-loved books that other children have grown out of, sort and gift them to those children and young people who have very few books of their own. Working with over 500 primary and secondary schools, as well as women’s refuges, food banks and prisons nationwide we tackle book poverty head on and over time create ‘book rich’ communities that can swap and share their own books, and benefit from the joy and improved outcomes that shared reading brings. We are run on a largely voluntary basis and seek funds for logistical costs such as van hire to ensure we can continue to get books into children’s hands. This May, we will gift our millionth book in the North Kensington primary school, where our story began ten years ago. Please support us to turn the page and bring joy and positivity to another half a million children in the capital and beyond. “Books, like the contents of so many of them, have many chapters in life. It’s about passing them on to a new child, when it’s time to turn the page, so a new chapter with a new owner can begin.” Liberty Venn, Founder Thank you in advance for your support.
